How to replace a bathroom faucet?

by LeeKenny 13 Dec 2023 0 Comments

Replacing a leaky or old faucet is not as difficult as you think. You can use this guide to learn how to change faucets efficiently with the appropriate tools and preparations.

Precautions before replacement

Before you begin, please determine your bathroom faucet type. Bathroom faucets have single-hole faucets, central faucets and split faucets.

  • The single-hole faucet is designed to operate through a single hole in the sink.
  • The center-extended or center-set bathroom faucet is designed to have three holes of four inches or more between sinks. There will be a cover or hole cover to connect the parts at the top of the sink.
  • Split or large bathroom faucets are designed for sinks with 8 inches or more holes between sinks. With these, the faucet and handle look like three independent parts from above.

How to remove the bathroom faucet

Tip: If necessary, remove all items stored under the sink and give more room to change the faucet.

  • Before removing any parts, please turn off the tap to supply water.
  • Turn on the tap to relieve the pressure and residual water flow in the water pipe, and then turn off the tap.
  • Place a basin under the pipe to catch the overflow water when replacing the drain pipe.
  • Disconnect the hot and cold water supply line of the faucet.
  • Use a wrench to unscrew the mounting nut that holds the faucet under the sink.
  • Disconnect the hoist rod of the faucet from the drain pipe.
  • Pull up the old faucet assembly from the top. The base may stick to the sink, so please use both hands.
  • Clean around the faucet mounting hole with topical alcohol or general purpose detergent, and then wipe it clean with a cleaning rag.

How to Install Bathroom Faucet

  • Remove the new faucet from the package.
  • Place rubber or plastic washers or washers on the mounting holes.
  • Put the new faucet in place and put the hot and cold valves into the matching mounting holes.
  • Seal the edges with a thin layer of bathroom caulking agent.
  • Place the washer on the mounting nut. First connect them by hand, and then tighten them with a wrench.
  • Connect the lift rod to the drain tail.
  • Connect hot and cold water supply lines.

Test faucet

  • Reopen the water supply.
  • Turn on the tap. Turn on the cold and hot taps.
  • Check all new connections and check for leaks above and below the sink.
